Located on the west coast of Mauritius, the villa was conceived as a tranquil retreat set within the lush landscape of the Wolmar nature reserve. The villa balances strong architectural geometry with the softness of its tropical surroundings, creating a home that feels both grounded and connected to its environment.

The design responds closely to the rhythms of island living. Generous openings and shaded verandas allow natural light and breezes to move freely through the spaces, creating an atmosphere that feels open, calm, and closely connected to the surrounding landscape.

Materiality plays a central role in shaping the character of the interiors. A restrained palette of earthy tones is layered with natural materials including timber, rattan, linen, cotton, and woven jute. Polished cement flooring runs throughout the home, introducing a quiet architectural continuity while remaining naturally cool underfoot in the tropical climate. These textures create an interior language that feels tactile, relaxed, and quietly refined while remaining rooted in the natural qualities of the island.

Local craftsmanship was integral to the project. Hand laid natural stone, crafted by Mauritian artisans using traditional masonry techniques, introduces depth and texture to the architectural elements of the villa. The stonework brings a sense of permanence and authenticity, grounding the design within its local context while contrasting with the clean lines of the architecture.

Throughout the home, layered materials and handcrafted elements introduce warmth and character while maintaining a calm architectural clarity. The result is a residence defined by material honesty, craftsmanship, and a quiet connection to nature, offering a restorative environment shaped by the rhythms of island life.
